Tiago Francez, also known as The Empty Belly, grounds his work in the question of human nature—whether through its affirmation, its absence, or its destruction. He constantly seeks to define the fragility and origin of the human being, whom he considers to be at the root of many drifts and deviations.

The point is the sole constituent of The Empty Belly’s work. It claims to be part of a vast body, yet possesses its own independence and identity.

“A point marks a position in space. A point can be a center. The center of the universe. It can be an insignificant speck of matter or a concentrated locus of power. It can represent the beginning of life or mark its end. A starting point or an arrival point. It can pierce like a bullet or puncture like a needle. A point may assert its own identity or dissolve into the crowd. In typography, a point marks a period. A full stop. In geometry, a point is a pair of x and y coordinates. It has no mass. Graphically, a point appears as punctuation. ‘Everything starts from a point.’ (W. Kandinsky). A point is a visible mark. The point is the smallest unit. It asserts its existence through the relationship it generates with itself. It can be both significant and insignificant. Is a point divine? Is it perfection? Ultimately, what does it mean to be a point? Point. To be or not to be…”
