Simon Burkhalter
Visual artist / Performer / Sculptor / Musician
Simon Burkhalter is in constant observation of the world and living systems, seeking to understand the relationships we establish with our environment. He draws inspiration from nature, various cultures and subcultures and their artifacts, technology, rituals, and absurdities.
He explores different media to translate his perceptions. His work is conceptual, and the choice of technique emerges from the subjects he addresses. He creates with wood, metal, concrete, plastics, textiles, recycled materials, and found objects to produce installations and sculptures. He experiments with scenographies where performance and installation intersect.
He also develops his passions for sound design, new technologies, virtual 3D environments, and game design. Constantly seeking stimulating projects, he aims to mobilize the full range of his skills. Knowledge sharing plays a central role in everything he undertakes:
“Knowledge is power and the power belongs to the people. More than ever now, in the age of misinformation.”
Education and background
After one year studying microtechnology at HTI and two years at PH Bern training as an art and music teacher, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Product Design (FH), specializing in process and interaction design.
He has worked as a team leader on collaborative projects and collaborates with selected artists within the AIA collective.
