Dorothée Haller

Textile design

Textiles have played an important role in my life since childhood. Introduced to them by my family, I trained in knitting, sewing, and crochet techniques.

What drives me today is the question of material consumption what value do materials hold in our contemporary society? It is about the influence we have on what surrounds us, and conversely, the influence it has on us.

At its core, my work explores the relationship between the body and the environment. More specifically, I investigate the connection between textiles and architecture; both, for me, express the human need to build. Weaving an ancient technology that, like architecture, evolved alongside civilization is one of the primary ways I explore this relationship in my practice.

My textile design studio (studio dorothee haller) combines artisanal techniques with contemporary design concepts. I produce in an eco-responsible way, using materials discarded by local textile companies. I practice slow design, meaning I create unique pieces and limited series such as wall hangings or blankets crafted by hand.

Unfortunately, the studio is not able to host interns or offer apprenticeship contracts.
