Nicola Aramu

Painting / Printmaking

Nicola Aramu is an Italian artist from Venice, where he studied painting and printmaking at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia.

His painting draws inspiration from everyday life, memory, and history. The past of those who came before us reappears to him through images—old postcards and black-and-white photographs—breathing nostalgia and a gentle melancholy for lost things. By giving a second life to these private and public memories, he creates a poetic universe that is at times fantastic and ambiguous, stimulating both memory and imagination.

Nature is another central theme in his work, particularly in his aquatic landscapes: a series of paintings devoted to the element of water, explored from more or less classical viewpoints. These range from abstract color studies and impressionistic landscapes to poetic compositions in which the line between reality and fantasy often blurs. In doing so, his waterscapes both reflect nature and function as projection screens for the viewer’s imagination.
