Basketry

Basketry is an ancient and universal art form.

Willow basketry, along with other plant-based techniques, makes it possible to create a wide range of forms from small and delicate pieces to monumental and rustic structures.

Creations can be functional or decorative, flat or three-dimensional. They may serve as containers, objects, or architectural structures. Weaving allows one to clothe, shelter, furnish, and decorate.

I see basketry as the intersection between the textile sphere (weaving, crochet, knitting…) and the constructive sphere (structures, walls, assemblages). Basketry is a total art a transversal creative practice.

Basketry is infinitely rich; its learning process never truly ends, and one can never master all its techniques, materials, or possible forms. For me, it is also an invitation to travel and exchange.

This craft has endured through the ages. Once fallen into decline, it is now experiencing a revival, particularly valued for its ecological qualities.
