Julie Wittich

Painter / Color - Graphic Designer / Maker

The refraction of light on frosted glass, the roughness of crumbling gray concrete, the deep, slightly translucent brown of a hot coffee, the smoothness of golden ink being mixed, or the softness of cotton paper. We constantly experience sensory moments that mark us for a second-brief instants when we step outside ourselves to contemplate.

These experiences nourish my practice, which continually questions the relationship between substance – the content and form – the image or printed object. Exploring territories such as painting, graphic design, multiples, artist’s books, and occasionally textiles, I strive to maintain a hybrid approach in which each technique influences the others. I question boundaries between the unique artwork and the multiple, mechanical production and craftsmanship thus satisfying an insatiable desire for colorful experimentation.
