Irakli Chkartishvili
He was told he was born on May 8, 1970, in Tbilisi, Georgia, then part of the Soviet Union. He has always sculpted clay, wood, stone, and bronze. He will never stop and anyone who discovers his work will wish the same. He has been living in France since 2009 with his horses and his dog.
Career
At the age of six, he created his first clay puppets by the river. He joined the “Pioneers” of Tbilisi, where he learned painting and sculpture.
1988: He failed the entrance exam to the Academy of Fine Arts in Tbilisi and spent two years in the Soviet army.
1990: He enrolled at the Fine Arts Academy but was expelled in 1991 for misconduct.
1992: He returned to the Academy of Fine Arts, but the war in Abkhazia began. All his work disappeared.
1997: He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts.
2000: He left Georgia for Portugal and worked illegally in construction without a residence permit.
Since 2009: He has been trying to live and work in France.
