Hyesung Jung

Born in 1981 in South Korea, I live and work in Mulhouse. After graduating in Art from Chosun University in Korea in 2005, I moved to France, where I am currently a student at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR) in Mulhouse. Since 2018, I have had a studio at Motoco.
My practice focuses primarily on visual arts, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, video, artist’s books, and installation. My interest lies between opposites—for example, between visible and invisible, absence and presence—and I am drawn to observing things in transformation.
“In general, we look at things and then realize that they exist. There is what we can see immediately, what we discover over time, all those small things that appear gradually, in the stillness of the gaze. To distinguish between visible and invisible. To feel the presence created by the passage from one state to the other, where no hierarchy exists within what is. Therefore, before beginning to work, I need a moment of silence to listen to my own voice and observe what surrounds me.”
