Gabrielle Alexandre arrives at Motoco !
At the beginning of 2026, several new residents are arriving at Motoco.
Through her installations, Gabrielle takes us on a journey across landscapes—a subtle blend of her own origins and those of tales and legends. From her native Franche-Comté, she draws endless inspiration. There, she finds rich stories passed down through generations, sometimes transformed by time, often magical, always meaningful. In her research, Gabrielle focuses on feminist adventures—stories of powerful, salvational, and creative women.
These fictions do not seek to denounce but rather to build new narratives. A richness that nourishes us, a guide for our own stories.
These restorative fictions are numerous in rural legends. They break free from the codes of the urban bourgeoisie to create their own path.
A path that Gabrielle eagerly explores in order to share it with us.
At the beginning of her work, her worlds were made up of magical, fairy-like settings. Gradually, different characters came to inhabit these universes—women, fairies—essential to their environment, essential to life. Some possess magical powers, all are extraordinarily strong and deeply human. They are the reason for life, survival, and everything around them.
Gabrielle uses drawing, sculpture, video, and papier-mâché to stage her stories. The landscapes change, the characters evolve. The giant dolls that inhabit her installations transform—they live.
Most of Gabrielle’s creations come from domestic materials. She creates with what she has, what we all have. Simple tools that gain nobility through her perspective.
She is currently researching the ideal papier-mâché recipe to explore new textures and new uses.
At Motoco, she shares a studio with Clémence Bruno (whom we will introduce soon). After several years in Marseille, this new space allows her to take the time needed for technical experimentation—but not only that. It also allows her to reconnect physically with her main source of inspiration: Haute-Saône, her Haute-Saône.
Gabrielle is currently exhibiting in Aix-en-Provence at the Ars Longa gallery alongside Clémence Bruno and Sévérina Ianakieva.
