Lu Bihler (born 1999) is a French visual artist based in Mulhouse. A graduate of the Ostkreuzschule f\u00fcr Fotografie in Berlin, they lived in Berlin between 2018 and 2024 before returning to settle permanently in Alsace, their native region. Their practice originates in photography and alternative photographic processes, which they now develop within an expanded approach to the visual arts.<\/p>\n

Through photography, installation, performance, video, and sound, Lu explores the connections between the intimate and the collective, addressing questions of identity, social norms, and transmission. Their work pays particular attention to queer experiences, non-dominant narratives, and mechanisms of invisibilization.<\/p>\n

Most of their works originate from a memory, an image from the past, or a significant experience. These mnemonic fragments become the starting point for a visual and sensitive inquiry into traces, tensions, knots, and sensations. However, the aim is not to remain within a fixed nostalgia: the past is approached as material to be transformed, reactivated, and rewritten. Creation thus becomes a space of displacement, enabling the overcoming of mnemonic blockages and opening up new forms of narration and representation.<\/p>\n

Since returning to Alsace, their work has become rooted in research nourished by traditions, family heritage, and encounters, which they examine in a critical and sensitive manner. Recently, their practice has evolved toward a more three-dimensional dimension, situating photography within space through installations and sculptural devices.<\/p>\n
